Erasmus and eTwinning: Expanding Global Connections in Education at IES Linköping
Erasmus is a European Union initiative designed to support international collaboration in education, training, and youth development. It opens doors for schools, students, and teachers to engage in cross-cultural learning and share innovative practices. IES Linköping has been actively involved in Erasmus, submitting two major applications: KA 120, seeking accreditation for ongoing international exchanges on the sustainable development goals, and KA 220, a partnership with a school in Turkey on conflict management. Our international efforts also include hosting a group of students from École Sainte Marie in France in 2023, who performed a play in French for our students, enriching their cultural and linguistic experience. Additionally, we welcomed two teachers from State Professional School II Kempten in Germany for job-shadowing, providing opportunities to share best practices and collaborate with our educators. These experiences reflect IES Linköping’s dedication to fostering a globally connected, inclusive, and innovative educational environment.
In addition, two of our teachers have attended specialized training programs—one in Finland on anti-racist pedagogy and another in Vienna focusing on political education in schools—bringing valuable insights and strategies to our classrooms. We have also submitted an application for one of our teachers to participate as a School Ambassador for the EU.
Currently, IES Linköping is participating in an exciting eTwinning project with five European partner schools, centered on exploring self-identity. eTwinning complements Erasmus by connecting schools across Europe through virtual collaboration on educational projects. This initiative empowers students to reflect on their individuality and how they relate to the world. The project will culminate in an exhibition at the Linköping library, where student work will be showcased, inviting visitors to engage in their own journey of self-discovery.
In a short amount of time, IESL has achieved significant milestones in its Erasmus work. We recently completed a KA2 Erasmus project on conflict management in schools in collaboration with Rifat Dagdelen and Soma Türkiye, which resulted in student exchanges, eTwinning online meetings, an e-guideline, and a dedicated website.

IESL also received a European Quality Award for the eTwinning project Inky of Unity, making it one of only six schools in Sweden to earn this recognition.
In addition, IESL was granted KA1 school accreditation until 2027, strengthening internationalisation and providing opportunities for students and teachers to develop knowledge related to the Sustainable Development Goals, critical thinking skills, English fluency, and respectful dialogue. Since 2025, IESL has received over €50,000 in funding and has sent 16 students and three teachers on mobilities to Dublin, Spain, Italy, and Portugal.
Next year, IESL plans to expand its partnerships even further by collaborating with schools in Madrid, Belgium, and Italy.
