Three Year 9 students have secured a place among the top 10 in the national mathematics competition "Höjdpunkten". Competing against 183 other teams in the compulsory school category, Bella, Rasmus, and Elliot demonstrated the academic excellence and grit that define the IES spirit.

The competition, organised by Ung Vetenskapssport, is an annual team event that challenges students across Sweden to solve complex mathematical problems. This year saw record-breaking participation with 284 teams nationwide, where 183 teams competed in the category for Years 7–9.

Representing IES Jönköping under the team name "BRE", Bella, Rasmus, and Elliot (Year 9) showed exceptional skill, placing in the top 10 out of nearly 200 competing schools. Their success is a testament to their hard work and the high academic expectations we set at IES Jönköping.

Ms. Venter, subject leader math Y4-Y9, said: "It is truly inspiring to see our students apply their problem-solving skills at such a high national level. This result reflects the grit and logical thinking we strive to instil in our students every day. Placing in the top 10 out of 183 teams is an outstanding achievement that shows what can be reached through dedication. A huge 'well done' goes out to these three standout students! Whether it was solving a difficult equation or navigating a logical puzzle, they rose to the challenge with grit and logic. We are very proud of their hard work and the way they represented our school with such passion and precision."

At IES Jönköping, we encourage our students to develop grit — a strong fighting spirit and the courage to challenge themselves. Participating in national competitions like "Höjdpunkten" provides a valuable platform for students to apply their classroom knowledge in a competitive, international context.

We are extremely proud of their achievement. As a result of their high-ranking performance, the team will receive prizes from the organisers to recognise their mathematical talent. We also want to extend a special thank you to Mr. Cockburn for his invaluable mentorship and for supporting the students toward their "high point".
