A Term Filled with Progress, Community, and the Joy of Movement at IES Jönköping
The fall term began with our traditional red carpet welcome, where both new and returning students arrived filled with anticipation, excitement, and a touch of nerves. As we summarize the months behind us, we can look back on a term defined by high academic ambition, strong community spirit, and plenty of laughter.
Making memories at the Year 6 camp!
A Great Start and New Friendships
Anela Karlsson Pastoral Care Coordinator (Junior) was interviewed for the Quality Report.
The term kicked off at a high pace right from the start. Our Year 9 students set off on their annual camping trip to Stockholm — a perfect way to strengthen the group's bond before their final year with us, which will culminate in a formal Graduation Ceremony in June. Meanwhile, our Year 6 students enjoyed hiking, S’mores, and swimming while creating a secure foundation and strong friendships for the school years ahead.
Focus on Safety and Wellbeing
During the term, IES Jönköping was highlighted by the main office for our successful work regarding safety and wellbeing. Through close collaboration between home, school, the Pastoral Care team, our Learning Environment Team, and the local "Fältgruppen," we create the relationships necessary for a secure school environment. It is this sense of security that empowers our students to challenge themselves and reach their full potential.
The Importance of the Everyday: Engagement in the Classroom
Behind all the big events lies the most important component: daily lessons. Every week, our fantastic teachers have challenged students with new insights and knowledge. This year, we have also been able to offer students in Years 7–9 even more elective choices, providing a unique "high school feel." Everything from advanced Mathematics, Science, and English to exciting subjects like Psychology and Business Studies has been on the schedule. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to take the globally recognized Cambridge IGCSE exams — a fantastic merit for the future.
Hanna and Miral in Year 8 have chosen to further their studies in IGCSE Science.
Future Dreams and Professional Life
To prepare our students for life after school, we arranged Career Days. Students met inspiring guest speakers, practiced writing impactful Cover Letters, and explored the labor market. Year 9 students have also completed their "PRAO" (work experience), gaining valuable insight into various career paths and seeing how school knowledge is applied in the real world.
#MovewithIES
Through the #MovewithIES concept, the joy of movement defines our daily lives. During Health Week, we held "Skoljoggen" and a challenging "Ultra Challenge" in the beautiful late summer sun. We’ve had dance-offs, smoothie tastings, and challenged each other in everything from Kin-Ball to plank challenges. Additionally, many of our students experienced their very first live hockey match thanks to the "HV71 for All" project.
Experience IES Jönköping
In October, we opened our doors to the public during our Open House. We offered a taco buffet, crafts, and guided tours led by our talented Student Council representatives.
Don't miss out: Our next Open House is Wednesday, January 14th at 16:30!
Our school library continues to be a central hub. During September alone, a total of 1,354 books were borrowed—a fantastic testament to our students' passion for reading!
Community Engagement
Community is also about helping others. Primary (F–3) organized a cozy Afternoon Tea and autumn festival where the Student Council chose to support Save the Children (Rädda Barnen). Through the sale of baked goods, we together raised 6,770 SEK for their important work.
Tradition and Celebration
From the creative Fancy Dress Day to our meaningful Assemblies, where we highlight good character through Character Counts, we celebrate successes big and small. We also celebrated Nobel Day with a red carpet, Nobellunch and enjoyed a beautiful Lucia procession performed by Year 3.
Eliott, Johannes, Amadeus, and Oscar from Year 8 opened the End of Term Ceremony for Senior School (Years 7–9) in the best possible way!
In December, we finally opened our long-awaited Student Lounge for Years 7–9. A place to relax with billiards, chess, and air hockey and soon our Student Café will open too! A special shout-out goes to our Chess Club, which took first place in a major training tournament in December.
End of Term Ceremony
The term ended at full speed with activities like visits to Prison Island, Kahoot competitions, and a formal End of Term Ceremony. We enjoyed fantastic music from our school bands in Years 5 and 8, and honored students who distinguished themselves in Academic Excellence and Character Counts.
We would now like to thank all students, parents, and staff for a fantastic term. We wish you all a well-deserved winter break and a Happy New Year!
