Year Nine Students Begin The Giver
Year nine students at Internationella Engelska Skolan Hässelby Strand have started an in-depth novel study of The Giver, focusing on character analysis and global themes.
At Internationella Engelska Skolan Hässelby Strand, our year nine students have recently embarked on a comprehensive study of Lois Lowry’s acclaimed novel, The Giver. This project is designed to challenge students' academic aspirations and help them navigate complex international perspectives through literature.
Throughout the term, students will work intensively with the novel to develop a deeper understanding of various literary elements. The study includes:
Content and Setting: Exploring the structure of the dystopian society.
Character and Conflict: Analysing the motivations and internal struggles of the protagonists.
Themes: Discussing universal concepts such as memory, individuality, and societal rules.
The curriculum is structured to support different learning styles, incorporating discussions, reading tasks, and listening comprehensions. In the final stage of the project, students will have the opportunity to choose their final assignment. This allows them to focus on the specific grading criteria they wish to improve upon, encouraging "grit" and personal responsibility in their learning process.
