Year 4 Dives Into Their Annual Swimming Sessions

This week marked an exciting milestone for our Year 4 students at IES Hässelby as they began their weekly swimming program. Swimming and water safety are essential components of the Physical Education and Health curriculum, helping prepare students to meet national swimming literacy requirements while building confidence in the water.

Program Overview & Goals Over the next four weeks, Year 4 students will visit the pool once a week to develop vital life skills:

  • Simteknik (Swimming Technique): Practicing breathing, breaststroke, and backstroke in both shallow and deep water, adapted to each student's current skill level.

  • Vattenvana (Water Confidence): Exercises designed to help students feel comfortable and secure in, under, and around water.

  • Badvett och Säkerhet (Water Safety Rules): Learning key safety guidelines for swimming at indoor facilities as well as outdoor waters.

  • Livräddning (Life Saving Basics): A foundational introduction to water rescue, including floating techniques, using the extended arm method, and throwing a lifebuoy.

A huge thank you goes out to our Junior Gym teachers, Mr Khalaf and Mr Isberg, for organizing these sessions and supporting our young swimmers.

The first week was already a resounding success, according to the Physical Education department.

"First week of swimming done for year 4! They were fantastic," shared Mr Isberg following their initial session.

We look forward to seeing our students continue to build their skills, safety awareness, and confidence in the water over the coming weeks!
