IES Hässelby Strand Hosts First Meeting for Book Club

In October, IES Hässelby launched its new book club, following International Banned Books Week to celebrate reading and open discussion.

Students at IES Hässelby gathered in the Rec Room on Monday, 12 October, for the school's very first book club meeting. Open to anyone interested in books and reading, the group aims to explore new stories, share thoughts, and bring readers together across year groups.

The launch coincided with International Banned Books Week, an annual event celebrating the freedom to read while raising awareness of book censorship. Posters highlighting information about banned books were displayed around the school corridors to encourage student discussion.

Under the motto "Let books be. Protect the freedom to read!", students also participated in an educational tipspromenad quiz on banned books. Activity sheets were made available at reception, and completed forms were handed in to teachers.

Students who wish to join future book club meetings can sign up in the library, complete the Google Form on SchoolSoft, or speak directly with their teacher.
