IES Celebrates Diversity During Cross Curricular Week
It is finally time for this year's Cross Curricular Week 6-8th October!
For almost an entire week, we are breaking away from our regular timetable as students collaborate across subjects in mixed-age groups throughout the entire school.
This Year's Theme: Respect for People’s Differences
Grounded in the foundational values of our curriculum, this year's focus is on diversity, collaboration, and mutual understanding.
Through creative arts, research, and hands-on problem solving, we will explore how our differences enrich both our school community and the wider world. Alongside our project work, a love for reading and engaging mathematical challenges are seamlessly integrated into every group's daily routine!
What Will the Students Be Doing?
Students have been placed into smaller, cross-year groups guided by our teaching staff to tackle a wide variety of exciting projects. Here is a small preview of what is happening throughout the week:

Culture & Global Perspectives: Exploring sacred foods from around the globe (Sacred Foods), discovering local traditions through a city scavenger hunt (Culture Hunt), and creating interactive exhibition boards about different countries (World’s Fair).

The Power of Words & Textiles: Crafting a large-scale textile art installation to promote positive language across the school (Beautiful Words), alongside poetry workshops, newspaper publishing, and bringing global storytelling traditions to life (Folktales Puppet Shows).

Performing Arts, Film & Dance: Reinterpreting ancient Greek legends through stop-motion animation (Misunderstood Monsters) and choreographing global movement patterns in the sports hall (Transcontinental Dances).

Math, Art & Science: Blending geometry, painting, and literature in Lost in a Book, Found in Art and Shapes of Our Lives. Looking beyond our solar system to design new habitable planets (One Universe – Many Worlds), and designing original playground games focused on mathematics and fair play.
Why Cross-Curricular Learning?
Working across different year groups allows our students to connect with new peers, build strong teamwork skills, and practice shared responsibility.
Seeing how subjects like mathematics, languages, art, and social sciences connect in real-world contexts deepens learning while strengthening the sense of community and inclusion across the whole school.
