The Swedish Schools Inspectorate (Skolinspektionen) gives Internationella Engelska Skolan in Borås the highest rating in its latest quality report. The decision shows that the school meets all criteria to a high degree.

The authority has reviewed four areas – principal leadership, teaching, safety and study environment, as well as assessment and grading – and concludes that IES Borås operates an educational environment of very high quality.

Leadership

The inspectors particularly highlight the principal’s clear and systematic leadership, noting that she continuously follows up on school results and analyzes both academic progress and safety. It is also clear that targeted measures are implemented when needed, with the support of or in cooperation with the assistant principals. The authority states in its decision that the school has a well-functioning organization in which teachers receive support to develop their teaching and work toward shared goals.

Teaching

According to the Schools Inspectorate, the teaching is structured, varied and inclusive, with a clear focus on both academic objectives and core values. Lessons follow shared routines, have clear goals, logical structures and students are supported in developing study techniques, source criticism, and their own strategies for learning. Students are offered both challenges and adaptations according to their needs, in close collaboration between teachers and the Student Care Team.

Safety and Study Enviroment

In terms of safety and study environment – an area often crucial for students’ ability to succeed in school – the school’s work is also strongly recognized. The Schools Inspectorate describes how all staff use shared methods and routines to ensure that students feel safe. Students themselves mention the calm study environment as a positive factor and the authority notes that the school’s core value work is clearly integrated both into teaching and into everyday school life. Measures such as playground supervision, clear classroom routines, activity breaks and increased adult presence in all school areas are assessed as having contributed to a safe environment.

Assessment and Grading

IES Borås also receives top marks in the area of assessment and grading. The Schools Inspectorate highlights the school’s structured working methods, frequent analysis meetings, established routines for joint assessment and shared interpretation of curriculum documents. Teachers work systematically to compare assessments, analyze results, and discuss consistency and fairness. National tests are anonymized during marking and analyzed collectively to ensure fair grading.

The principal expresses great pride in the results:

– It is difficult to find the right words to express how proud I am of our school and the hard work of our staff. For years, we have worked together to develop our school and have made adjustments along the way to support our students in the best possible way, says Maritza Molin, principal at Internationella Engelska Skolan Borås.

For students, guardians and staff, the result of the inspection is clear: IES Borås is a stable, safe and professionally led school, where students are given the best possible conditions to succeed.
