In our schools, all staff make a difference for every student. This series highlights the diverse roles that contribute to a positive and supportive school environment. Read about Linda Wanjala, socialpedagog at IES Solna.
Describe your work and what your role entails.
As a socialpedagog, my job is all about creating a safe and supportive school environment. I work to promote respect and positivity among students while helping manage daily challenges. This includes handling incidents, running investigations, meeting with parents, and keeping everything well-documented. I also support teachers through the on-call system when they need assistance.
But my role isn’t just about responding to issues – I also focus on prevention. I help run friendship groups and work with students on impulse control strategies, all in line with the school’s Plan Mot Kränkande Behandling. My goal is to make sure every student feels supported, included, and set up for success, both academically and socially.
Why did you choose to start working at IES, and how long have you been working here?
I’ve been with IES for three years now. I was drawn to the school because of its bilingual environment, which I think is a fantastic opportunity for new families that migrate to Sweden. The structure and high expectations at IES create a great learning space, and I wanted to be a part of that.

What would you say makes your school a great school?
That we are a multicultural school.
What is the best thing about your job?
Being available for students. Every day is different, and I love knowing that I am making a difference in their school experience. And if I’m being honest, all the walking I do throughout the day helps me get my steps in!
What activity during the school year do you enjoy the most? Why?
House Days, without a doubt! They are such a fun way to bond with students, build school spirit, and create great memories together.
What are you most proud of when you think about your school?
I love the strong, supportive culture we’ve built – especially Gotcha Days, when we take time as colleagues to appreciate one another. It’s a reminder that teamwork and kindness matter.
What is your favourite memory of interacting with students?
Graduation ceremonies are always special. Seeing students celebrate their achievements, knowing how hard they’ve worked to get there – that’s an incredible feeling.
