IES welcomes proposal for 10-year compulsory school

Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) welcomes the government's decision to move forward with the proposal to extend compulsory school to ten years of education. Preschool class (förskoleklass) will be replaced by a new first year of compulsory school, and the ten-year compulsory school will give students a better opportunity to develop basic skills such as reading, writing and arithmetic.

Robin Kirk Johansson, head of education at IES, said: “Internationella Engelska Skolan welcomes the proposal and the fact that more focus is being placed on teaching children to read, write and count from an early age. It is good to have clear expectations and better opportunities for an equal education.”
