The Swedish government has now received a report on enhanced safety and calmer studying conditions in schools by investigator Happy Hilmarsdottir Arenvall.
Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) welcomes the report on enhanced safety and increased study time received by the Swedish government on Wednesday, 29th January. The report focuses on one of the most important cornerstones of a successful education. The proposals from the inquiry are concrete tools to provide school operators, schools and principals with the means to meet the challenges they may face.
Linda Öholm, head of public affairs for IES, said: "It is good that the government's investigator is so clear about the key leadership role of principals and teachers, as that is the starting point for everything else; in a safe and calm school environment where teachers can teach and students learn. The inquiry's proposals are good and concrete examples of the shift needed for Swedish schools.”
At Internationella Engelska Skolan, a strong school culture is important. This is why IES has high expectations, support and also consequences. A safe, calm and structured learning environment where students feel secure is a prerequisite for learning.
Robin Kirk Johansson, head of education for IES, said: "The school's rules should not only be set by the management but must be embraced by everyone. By valuing leadership in schools, it becomes clearer at the same time as we get concrete tools and conditions to deal with disciplinary problems, both serious and less serious. Although it is good that the principals' responsibility is clarified, we must remember that they cannot shoulder all of society's challenges on their own."
