IES Kista students awarded in STEM entrepreneurship challenge

This academic year, the mathematics department at IES Kista introduced the 'Ung Företagsamhet – Grundskoleutmaningen' project to students across several year groups. The initiative has ignited a passion for real-world problem-solving, combining mathematics and entrepreneurship to inspire the leaders of tomorrow.

Every year, Ms. Hetal Bhinday, head of the maths department at IES Kista, and her team bring cross-curricular learning to life, empowering students to apply math to real-world problems through hands-on projects like 'Grundskoleutmaningen'.

This year, over 1,200 students from across Stockholm participated, and IES Kista’s year five students went the extra mile, winning the “Best Class – Bubble Prize” at the regional finals at the Vattenfall head office in Solna.

Ms. Hetal Bhinday expressed her pride in the students' achievements, saying, "The maths learning journey at IES Kista is like Pi – infinite, ever-evolving, and filled with limitless possibilities. As Seth Godin wisely said, 'School should teach you two essential things: how to solve interesting problems and how to become a leader.' These principles are at the heart of what we aim to cultivate in our students – the ability to think critically and lead with confidence."

As the icing on the cake, student Jolena Bleppony, 5B, is featured on the official webpage of Ung Företagsamhet – Stockholm, recognised for her exceptional skills in mathematical data representation and problem-solving.

These collaborations between educators, students, and partners like Vattenfall and Ung Företagsamhet Stockholm are helping bridge classroom learning with real-world impact – driving innovation, encouraging sustainability, and nurturing the change-makers of tomorrow.
