IES Enskede’s year 6-7 and year 8-9 boys' football teams were both crowned champions in the 2025-26 Stockholm District School tournament, a testament to teamwork, resilience, and a great school culture
Internationella Engelska Skolan Enskede (IES Enskede) celebrated an unprecedented success when both the year 6-7 and year 8-9 boys' football teams were crowned champions in the Stockholm District School 2025-26 tournament, which saw 65 teams from 23 schools across Stockholm play.
The tournament, which focused on safe sport and the joy of play, saw IES Enskede field multiple teams in both boys' and girls' categories. While the boys dominated the top spots, the girls’ teams also delivered strong performances, with the year 6-7 team finishing fourth and the Year 8-9 team securing third place.
Clean Sheet
The Year 6-7 boys exhibited staggering defensive prowess, going the entire tournament without conceding a single goal. One player, Vincent, shared that their early success built high confidence.
He said: "The first match went quite well for us. We won three-zero, then the group stage was quite simple. We won every match by a good margin, so we thought we were going to win."
Their coach, Mr Crowther, student development manager and a head of house at IES Enskede, said: “The year six and seven team didn't concede a single goal in the entire tournament. By the time we reached the final the goalkeeper only actually had to save – I think it was maybe three or four shots – so that was really impressive.”
Revenge
The road to victory was tougher for the year 8-9 team, perfectly illustrating the IES belief in grit – a strong fighting spirit. Hevi admitted he initially thought their tournament ‘would go quite badly’ after drawing their first two group matches.
He said: “The hardest match was probably the first match or the last because the first match was a draw and it was a very tough match. Then we met the same team again in the final and then we were quite lucky, we won on penalties."
The turning point came during the knockout rounds.
Hevi said: "I first thought we would win in the the quarter-final, when it went to penalties, and our goalkeeper Fivel saved a penalty, and then I scored a penalty, and we advanced to the semi-final. Then I thought we had a pretty big chance to win.
Their ultimate victory, achieved against the team they faced in a tough opening draw, was especially sweet, offering a measure of revenge. Hevi added: "We are happy we could win because the year before we lost in the semi-final of the tournament, so it feels quite good that we could get this revenge."
Determination
The school’s principal, Mr Bye, congratulated all the players and emphasised that the success exemplifies the value placed on grit, and a great school culture at IES Enskede: "This remarkable double victory is a testament to their tireless work, unwavering commitment, and exceptional teamwork. All teams represented IES Enskede with pride, passion, and true sportsmanship."
