Figures show the correlation between national exams and final grades and the percentage of students who received a lower/same/higher final grade compared to their national exam result. The higher the figure for equal, the greater the alignment.

A strong correlation between final grades and national exam results is evident in the results of the national exams for year nine students at Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) in 2023/2024.

Annakarin Johansson Sandman, head of academics at IES, said: “This indicates two key points. Firstly, our long-term commitment to quality assurance and accurate grading has yielded positive results. Secondly, we maintain a high degree of grade integrity, ensuring that we do not set grades that are too high or low. The most effective tool for measuring this is precisely the alignment between final grades and national exam results, which remains strong at IES.”

One of the guiding principles at IES is high academic expectations. Ms Johansson Sandman added: “We firmly believe that all children can succeed, regardless of their background. This belief drives us to support each student in reaching their full potential. We are delighted that the hard work of our teachers in ensuring accurate and fair grading is also reflected in these results.”

In Swedish, mathematics, English, and Swedish as a second language, IES students exhibit a higher degree of alignment between final grades and national exam results compared to the national average. The proportion of students who received a higher grade than their national test result is lower than the national average.

Ms Johansson Sandman concludes: “National tests are a crucial tool for assessing students' knowledge and ensuring accurate and equitable grading. Therefore, we have long welcomed the proposal to make it possible to mark these exams centrally.”
