Preparing students for higher education and global opportunity begins with a strong foundation in reading, a priority across all Internationella Engelska Skolan schools.
During the autumn half-term break (Läslov), IES schools introduced engaging activities designed to make reading a natural, enjoyable part of daily life, under the banner of #readwithIES.
At IES Norrtälje, young learners completed a holiday läsbingo challenge, reading under blankets with torches at home and sharing audiobooks.
At IES Sundsvall, Fritids staff launched a dedicated "Reading Fritids," pairing games and outdoor play with daily read-aloud sessions, storytelling, and library visits.
Meanwhile, IES Täby kept its library open as a safe, welcoming hub year-round, integrating reading challenges and book talks directly into academic support.
The enthusiasm of our young readers highlights the success of these programs across our schools.

Lexie, from year 2 at IES Norrtälje said: "I love reading books but do you wanna know what was the best this time? I got to do the läsbingo together with Ellen. We live next to each other and we read together. We also got to eat marshmallows and it was the best time ever."
Yezen Azizi, from year 3 at IES Sundsvall, added: "I used to find reading difficult, but it was really fun during the reading break. We had fun! I finished my book and thought the read-aloud (of Den Magiska Kepsen) was super exciting."
As Magdalena Bull, primary years manager for Internationella Engelska Skolan, explained: "Reading is the one key thing that affects everything else that a student does at school. It's the key indicator for academic performance. One of the most powerful things we can do is ensure that students read."
By cultivating positive reading habits during school breaks and throughout the academic year, IES equips students with the confidence, grit, and skills needed to succeed in school and in life.
