IES' first national student council and leadership conference

Leadership and democratic decision-making, that is the theme when Internationella Engelska Skolan invites student council representatives from all over the country to its first nation wide leadership conference. So far, more than 70 student council representatives from 35 schools across Sweden will be attending.

The conference takes place at Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet Södermalm in Stockholm, Wednesday 15 March. The program includes workshops on student democracy and leadership, as well as lectures by, among others, Maja Sjögren, Swedish National Student Union, and Anna Sörelius Nordenborg, CEO at Internationella Engelska Skolan.

“Right from the beginning, leadership has been an important focus area within Internationella Engelska Skolan”, says Robin Kirk Johansson, Head of Education at IES, who is the initiator of the conference. “The Student Council Leadership Summit will be a way to combine our work on student democracy with our experience in leadership development.”

In addition to the workshops, lectures and discussions, there will also be physical activity on the schedule, with the session Move with IES, led by Ms Julie Kelly, principal at IES Länna.

“It will be a full day of student influence and leadership in focus”, says Robin Kirk Johansson, who believes that this is the first but not the last time IES organises such a conference. “To help young people develop as leaders and democratic decision makers is to invest in the future”, says Robin Kirk Johansson.
