Ms Bergström wins SvD Affärsbragd 2018

At a ceremony at Stockholmsmässan in Älvsjö Ms Barbara Bergström, founder of Internationella Engelska Skolan, received SvD’s Affärsbragd 2018 from the hands of His Royal Highness, Prince Daniel.

Ms Bergström said: “This is an award for the whole company, including our students, staff and parents, not just an award for me.  In its decision the jury has recognised everything that we have achieved together, and the bright future that we offer to students in Sweden."

Explaining why they chose Ms Bergström to receive the prize, the jury said: "With the grit of a true entrepreneur and a courageous effort, she has challenged the establishment with a clear vision, after identifying early the need which existed. This year's recipient of SvD Affärsbragd has succeeded in creating a study environment for the students, benefiting society and contributing so that Sweden stands better equipped for the future. "

Jury member Björn Jansson, CEO of Carnegie, said: "It wasn’t hard to choose the winner, because it was a very united jury who were able to choose the winner this year."

The prize was given out in Victoria Hallen in front of a crowd of 1,000, mostly made up of enthusiastic young entrepreneurs who have been taking part in the national young enterprise contest (Ung Företagsamhet)

Speaking to the assembled young students Ms Bergström was cheered as she encouraged their entrepreneurial spirit.  She said: "If you have an idea, pursue it, and go for it.  Go for gold and don’t let anyone stop you”

The competition went through several phases before choosing the eventual winner.  SvD put forward ten nominations in the paper, and after a public vote, five of the entrepreneurs with the most support were considered by the jury.

It meant that Ms Bergström was in very strong company, with other finalists including Peter Dahlberg of Anicura, Renée Voltaire, Maria Åkerberg, the founder of Dermanord and Johan Skarborg who founded Academic Work.

Following the prize-giving Ms Bergström went out to meet the young entrepreneurs, hear about their products, and purchase those which were pitched best to her.
