Internationella Engelska Skolan, IES, has signed a lease with Hemsö for a new school to be constructed in Trelleborg. The school is scheduled to open August 2022.
Trelleborg Municipality has, as part of its urban development planning, identified a need to strengthen integration and school results in the Fagerängen area and to increase the freedom of choice for students in Trelleborg. Internationella Engelska Skolan will be located just north of Fagerängen and adjacent to a municipal school. The municipality has chosen a location and size for the school that corresponds to the municipality's needs. When fully developed, the school will accommodate approximately 700 students in grades F-9. Provided all the necessary permits are obtained, the queue for IES Trelleborg will open on 1 February 2021.
Anna Sörelius Nordenborg, CEO of Internationella Engelska Skolan, comments: "We look forward to being part Trelleborg's regeneration of the Fagerängen area and providing greater opportunities for students to influence their future. Our new school in Trelleborg is an excellent example of how independent schools and municipalities can work together to strengthen school results and integration. IES has signed a 20-year lease agreement where IES takes on the full risk, i.e. there is no clause where we can leave the school early. We are proud of the trust placed in us and we look forward to contributing to the municipality's education initiative with a school of high quality and international profile."
"Schools and education is a key area for the municipality. It is important that our young people have more options so that they can build an even stronger future for themselves - this is a real milestone for the municipality," says Mikael Rubin, Chair of the Municipal Board (Moderate Party), Trelleborg Municipality.
