Are You An IES Teacher?

We recruit the best teachers from Sweden and around the world.

Currently our staff are from:

Some subjects are taught primarily through one language. English, Maths and Science are usually taught through English whilst Swedish, SVA, Social Sciences and our special educators teach through Swedish. Other subjects vary in the language of tuition on a school by school basis and after consideration of who the best teacher is.

Our schools are places where teachers can teach and students can learn.  This is possible  because of the strong emphasis Internationella Engelska Skolan places on creating a safe and calm environment which is conducive to teaching and learning. That environment helps everyone to concentrate on their lessons.

All of our staff pull together to create the best learning environment through the school so that rather than using time and energy to establish the preconditions for learning, our teachers are able to step into the classroom knowing that their lessons will start on time and then run smoothly and without disruption.

We work to maintain the atmosphere of mutual respect between students and staff in each of our schools with teachers being addressed as Mr or Ms.

Our teachers get to know the students both by name and personally. They promote the building of character for life just as much as they work to support every child to achieve their full potential.

To excel in our environment we think you will be:

Internationally minded: You will be working with and learning from colleagues who have different training and experiences from around the world. Students may not have English (or Swedish) as their first language and you will need to adapt your teaching methods to reach every student.

Passionate about your subject: You want to inspire your students to love your subjects as much as you do.

Enthusiastic about teaching and learning: You share our conviction that every student can realise their potential.

Flexible: You are willing to adapt and embrace new challenges.

We require our Swedish teachers to have “lärarlegitimation” (Swedish teacher certification). Our non-Swedish teachers should have a current teaching license/registration with a Bachelor's degree and teaching qualification from their home county. In practice this usually means a BEd, PGCE, PGDE, GDE or MaT depending on the country of qualification. ESL qualifications alone such as TEFL or CELTA are not sufficient.
