Who is Hayley Nicolson?
It's time to get to know all the teachers and staff who will meet the students at IES Österåker in the autumn! First up is the Assistant Principal for F-3: Hayley Nicolson.
“My name is Hayley Vera Nicolson and I am excited to introduce myself as the Assistant Principal F-3 for the new IES Österåker. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead alongside a fabulous group of staff in a new school full of ambition to strive for excellence and have a lot of fun along the way! I am enthusiastic about joining this wonderful community of teachers who will empower our students, not only to strive to seek their full potential but also to encourage them to have the confidence to be themselves above all else.
I began my educational career in Sweden at IES Täby in 2010, and have spent a further eight years working as part of a Swedish bilingual school in the Stockholm area as a classroom teacher in years F-3. I have a huge passion for the development of reading and writing in bilingual students and have seen firsthand the incredible thinking bilingual students can bring to the classroom across all subjects. Following my nine years in Swedish bilingual education I have spent some time working in secondary schools gaining valuable experience in both the UK and New Zealand (where I come from originally). Over the last year, I have been working at a school in New Zealand working with students who arrive at secondary school needing intervention with literacy.
Outside of school, I am very active in Swedish Gymnastics (GF), I have formally been an athlete myself, and now hold national and international coaching and judging qualifications. I am beyond excited to begin this new journey with all of you. I will work closely with our teachers, fritidspedagoger, the school principal, and our wonderful pastoral/academic supporting staff, to provide your children the best opportunity to learn and grow academically and socially during their time at IESÖ.
